Zinc magnesium alloy coated steel (+ZM)
Today, there are various alternative coated product types developed for environments where conventional galvanized sheets are insufficient in terms of corrosion resistance. One of them is the steels whose surface is coated with zinc magnesium alloy and defined with +AZ notation.
Steel products coated with this alloy are the most advanced ones in terms of corrosion resistance among the metallic coated steel varieties. At the same coating thickness, +ZM type coated steels are 3 times more resistant to corrosion than steels coated with only zinc (+Z).
Another superior feature of zinc magnesium (+ZM) coated steels is that the coating automatically covers the problematic surfaces. Such as areas deformed during forming (bending, etc.) or areas where the bare steel surface is exposed as a result of cutting/stamping. Although red rust can be seen temporarily on such areas, the coating on untouched surface migrates to the surface that needs protection and covers the red rust. This effect is also known as the self-healing effect.
